Europe helps Vietnam set up intellectual property training center |
Viet nam and the European Commission inaugurated in Hanoi Tuesday a training center they have set up under a cooperation framework to protect intellectual property rights. |
The opening was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Duc Tien, head of the EC delegation to Vietnam, Markus Cornaro, and officials from government agencies.
The IP training center is a joint effort between the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) and the EC-ASEAN Intellectual Property Rights Cooperation Program (ECAP II) to improve NOIP’s knowledge of IP among officials and other Vietnamese stakeholders.
Tien said a EC-Vietnam IPR cooperation project under ECAP II had been implemented effectively since March 2005, helping set up an IP management system in Vietnam and enhancing IP enforcement.
Besides the NOIP, other Vietnamese IP agencies, including the People’s Supreme Court, Market Control Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, Copyright Office of Vietnam, Economic Police, and the Department of Science and Technology in Ho Chi Minh City, have also received equipment to facilitate IP administration.
